Impressions of China

I've been in China almost two weeks now, and its been a wonderful experience. Beijing is a crazy place and the city is a mixture of where old meets new. These are few snap shots I've gotten so far. I'm trying to focus mainly on my classes, so nothing real substantial. Enjoy.

50th Anniversary

Attended My Grandparents 50th Wedding anniversary this past weekend. The event was real nice and I could tell how much It meant to them. I put together a slideshow from old pictures of the two of them. It turned out pretty nice and I learned a lot about each of them. they actually attended the same high school but didn't end up dating for real until in there college years. I took some photos of the event for them too, most of the ones I like ended up being of their grandkids.

Queen Mum

Virginia Heckler is this sweet old lady I met when doing an assignment for South East Ohio Magazine. At 93-years-old she was recently named Bicentennial Queen Mum in commemoration for her lifetime commitment to Community service in Barnesville, OH. The title was created specifically for her, on the year of the town's bicentennial. She was born and has lived within 15 miles of Barnesville all her life. Even though she is well traveled and her children have been dispersed all over the world, she remains in the same house her and her husband built in 1954. Her home is littered with things she's collected over the years and her memory is amazing.

A Felon's Best Friend

Hocking Correctional Facility's program for rescued and abandoned dogs. The facility works with a local animal rescue program and provides temporary care for the dogs until they can be adopted. Even though the program is small, holding only 10 to 15 dogs at a time, there has been over 400 dogs come through the facility in the last 11 years. Each dog is assigned to an inmate, who is responsible for caring for the dog and teaching it basic commands. The average stay for each do is about 3 months.
